A quiet Tuesday night saw Middlesbrough and Sheffield United both remain top after clinching draws, leaving top spot there for the taking.
Leeds can move top on goal difference if they beat Ipswich but Wednesday’s headline match sees West Bromwich Albion meet Derby County at The Hawthorns.
A win will take the Baggies top and a point clear but Derby can take a huge step themselves towards the top with victory, closing the gap down to two points.
West Brom will be without midfielder, Jake Livermore who is suspended after seeing red at Wigan on Saturday.
Defender, Craig Dawson is meanwhile a doubt after being subbed during that match with a knock.
Derby are without Craig Bryson (calf), George Evans (knee) and Joe Ledley (hip) for this match
West Brom saw a seven match unbeaten run come to an end at weekend but kept only one clean sheet during that run.
They are however unbeaten in last five home games since suffering an opening weekend defeat to Bolton.
Derby meanwhile have been inconsistent with three draws, two wins and a defeat from last six league games and one clean sheet.
The Rams also lost their opening home match but kept a clean sheet in following three games at Pride Park before conceding once in each of last three home games.
West Brom will be ready to hit back here after Saturday’s shock defeat but Derby are tough opposition.
Although I can see the Rams being happy with a draw here, I have a feeling that West Brom will have that extra quality in them to win it.
Prediction: West Bromwich Albion 2-1 Derby County
Result: West Bromwich Albion 1-4 Derby County
