After making a lively return last weekend, the Premier League threw up plenty of action in the second round of fixtures with two London derbies to boot and Liverpool retaining their lead at top of the table.
Firstly, we must start at Stamford Bridge where Maurizio Sarri made his home debut as Chelsea manager, whilst Unai Emery experienced his first London derby in charge of Arsenal.
Arsenal made the better start but goals from Pedro and Alvaro Morata soon put Chelsea ahead. Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alex Iwobi however pulled it back level to 2-2 at half time.
Embed from Getty ImagesThe second half was tightly fought but was ultimately decided in 80th minute, after an Alexander Lacazette blunder found Eden Hazard who played a 1-2 with Jorginho before finding Marcos Alonso running into box to score and seal a 3-2 home win for Chelsea.
Over in the other London derby, Tottenham Hotspur ran out 3-1 winners against Fulham with Harry Kane getting his first August Premier League goal to wrap up victory.
That came after Kieran Trippier had restored Spurs’ lead with a free kick akin to his England goal against Croatia, following Aleksandar Mitrovic’s equaliser to cancel out Lucas Moura’s opener.
Manchester City meanwhile cruised to top of table after ripping apart Huddersfield Town in a 6-1 thrashing, as Sergio Aguero claimed his ninth Premier League hat trick with eight of those coming at the Etihad Stadium and on two occasions, he scored more than the standard hat trick.
Brighton & Hove Albion without a doubt produced the shock of this weekend after running out 3-2 winners against Manchester United.
Embed from Getty ImagesFirst half goals from Glenn Murray, Shane Duffy and Pascal Gross were enough to comfortably beat the Red Devils, who saw Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba scored.
Everton and Bournemouth claimed 2-1 wins over Southampton and West Ham, whilst Leicester and Liverpool snatched 2-0 wins against Wolves and Crystal Palace respectively.
Finally, Watford saw off Burnley 3-1 at Turf Moor and Cardiff held Newcastle to a 0-0 draw to pick up their first points of season.
