Europa League predictions – Group Stage (R’nd 5)

Tonight is the turn of the UEFA Europa League involving Manchester United and Southampton.

With just two rounds to go in the group stage, wins tonight are crucial if both sides want to progress.

Sparta Prague vs Southampton (18:00)

Southampton comes into this game off the back of a goalless draw against Liverpool.

The Saints are however on a strong run in Europe with only a narrow defeat to Inter Milan at the San Siro, being their lowest point.

Their 3-0 win at home in September over the Czech team will surely boost their confidence despite struggling away from home.

Claude Puel has taken a strong squad to the Czech Republic along with some youngsters in Harry Lewis, Stuart Taylor and Josh Sims, who deserves to experience European football.

Looking at the squad, I expect them to get something from the game and a win will surely see them through to the last 32.

Prediction: Sparta Prague 0-2 Southampton

Result: Sparta Prague 1-0 Southampton

Manchester United vs Feyenoord (20:05pm)

This home game is a must win for Mourinho, if he is to avoid an early European exit.

Man U come into this clash off the back of a draw and win in last two games and will surely be seeking to produce better football than they did at the weekend against Arsenal.

Their European record has been mixed this season with their two wins coming at Old Trafford.

The returns of Luke Shaw and Henrikh Mkhitaryan will surely boost a flagging side which has flashes of quality but is inconsistently delivering.

The Red Devils need a performance like the one at Swansea, a few weeks ago or the Dutch opposition will pounce with the experience of Dirk Kuyt and Brad Jones amongst their ranks.

No matter what, they need to avoid defeat to take the knockout positions battle through to the final group match.

Luckily, their final group match is against Zorya Luhansk which should be a easy win, with Feyenoord and Fenerbahce facing each other to decide the last knockout position.

All that however hinges on at least a draw tonight.

Prediction: Manchester United 2-1 Feyenoord

Result: Manchester United 4-0 Feyenoord
