Preston North End welcome Cardiff City to Deepdale in a huge Sunday lunchtime clash from the Sky Bet Championship.
Preston can go as high as tenth with victory depending on winning margin, whilst Cardiff could climb above their hosts and up to 11th at maximum with a win.
Alan Browne is a doubt for Preston after needing to quarantine whilst on international duty with Republic of Ireland following contact with another player who tested positive for Coronavirus.
Tom Barkhuizen returns after serving an one match ban and Daniel Johnson (groin) is also fit but Louis Moult (knee) and Darnell Fisher (hamstring) are ruled out.
Cardiff will be without Lee Tomlin as the forward serves an one match ban after being sent off last time out in a goalless draw against Blackburn, as Joe Bennett misses out with a hamstring injury.
- Preston are unbeaten in three of last five meetings against Cardiff (W2, D1, L2).
- Cardiff have won two of their last five trips to Deepdale (W2, D1, L2).
- 12 of last 13 goals in this fixture have been scored by 12 different players with Tom Clarke the only player to score twice in that time before departing Preston in summer to join Salford.
After experiencing rough starts to the season, both teams will be hoping to build on positive results last time out if are to make inroads in their quests for a promotion challenge.
Preston’s biggest issue so far has been scoring at home with exception of the Carabao Cup First Round at end of August, which is all the more apparent after fighting back from two goals down to defeat Brentford 4-2 away from Deepdale in their last outing.
Cardiff also have similar home issues in terms of scoring but on the road, they have experienced two different games which resulted in a win and draw respectively, which is a promising step forward in what has so far seemed like a Play-Offs hangover from end of last season.
I seriously can’t see anything decent here given the issues currently facing both clubs with a draw a good bet, although if there’s a winner then Cardiff might have the edge.
Prediction: Preston 1-1 Cardiff
Result: Preston 0-1 Cardiff
