2020-21 Carabao Cup Round Four: Everton vs West Ham United

Everton welcome West Ham United to Goodison Park in an intriguing all Premier League tie in the Fourth Round of 2020-21 Carabao Cup.

Everton are looking to continue an unbeaten start to the season in all competitions and reach the Quarter-Finals of this competition for a second consecutive season for first time since 1986-88 seasons.

West Ham meanwhile are looking to reach a third League Cup Quarter-Final in their last five seasons.

Team News

Everton have no fresh injury concerns to report as Jarrad Branthwaite continues to recover from an ankle injury, with expectation that he will be fit in time for Everton’s Merseyside derby clash against Liverpool after October’s international break.

Jonas Lossl (back), Jean-Phillipe Gbamin (Achilles), Mason Holgate (toe) and Cenk Tosun (knee) remain absent indefinitely.

West Ham will be without Ryan Fredericks due to a hamstring injury suffered in Sunday’s Premier League win over Wolves.

Josh Cullen and Issa Diop are also sidelined as they continue to self-isolate after a positive Coronavirus test last week.

Stat Attack

  • Everton are unbeaten in three League Cup meetings against West Ham (W2, D1), although their Fourth Round meeting in 1983-84 season went to a replay which the Toffees won 2-0 at Goodison Park after drawing 2-2 at Upton Park.
  • West Ham have won just two of their last seven away all Premier ties (W2, L5).
  • Dominic Calvert-Lewin has scored five goals in four appearances for Everton this season across all competitions.

Prediction

Everton have made a brilliant start to the season in all competitions and still look dangerous even despite squad rotation between games, yet this competition probably is their best hope of a trophy unless they can pull off the unthinkable in league and FA Cup.

West Ham meanwhile have struggled to get going in the league but have built some solid momentum in this competition, which has slowly fed through into their league performances culminating in a ruthless win over Wolves on Sunday with high pressure play.

This therefore should be a cracking game because Everton will begin as favourites but if West Ham can soak up pressure and press the Toffees hard into unforced mistakes, either team could win but I do feel that Everton will just have the edge given their current form.

Prediction: Everton 2-1 West Ham United

Result: Everton 4-1 West Ham United
