2020-21 Sky Bet Championship: Week Two – Sunday

After an opening weekend draw, Stoke City look to record their first league win of 2020-21 season as they welcome Bristol City to BET365 Stadium.

A win for Stoke will move them above the Robins and potentially into the top six if can score twice, whereas Bristol City could go into the top two with victory.

Stoke have no fresh injury concerns as Joe Allen and Thibaud Verlinden both near returns from knee injuries.

Ryan Shawcross is also absent as he continues to rebuild his match fitness after a series of injuries last season.

Bristol City could be without Tomas Kalas due to a shoulder injury suffered during their midweek 4-0 Carabao Cup win over Northampton Town.

Jay Dasilva (shin), Joe Morrell (calf), Callum O’Dowda (groin), Liam Walsh and Joe Williams (both thigh) remain ruled out.

Stat Attack

  • Stoke have taken seven points from their last five league meetings against Bristol City (W2, D1, L2).
  • Bristol City are unbeaten in three of last seven trips to Stoke (W2, D1, L4).
  • Famara Diedhiou has scored for the Robins in two of his last three appearances against Stoke, with both goals coming at BET365 Stadium.

Prediction

Having scrapped to a draw against Millwall last weekend before scraping a late win at Wolves in midweek, Stoke seem to be on a upward trajectory in terms of defending but they do still seem rusty when through on goal.

Bristol City meanwhile seem to have already found their scoring boots but they did have to work for their win over Coventry last weekend, whereas midweek was pretty easy against a weak Northampton team but they will need to be sharp here to break down a tough Potters defence.

If the Robins do that then I can see them eventually clinching a comfortable away win otherwise I do see Stoke snatching a point.

Prediction: Stoke City 1-1 Bristol City

Result: Stoke City 0-2 Bristol City
