Rangers begin their 2020-21 UEFA Europa League campaign with a trip to Gibraltar as they visit Lincoln Red Imps at the Victoria Stadium.
Under an one-off Qualifying format change due to a delayed start to 2020-21 UEFA competitions, all Qualifying matches will be settled over a single leg which means that Rangers could face extra time and penalties if game isn’t finished in normal time.
Lincoln Red Imps have a full squad available for selection due to no fresh injury or suspension concerns.
Rangers will have Alfredo Morelos available despite the Columbian striker suffering a cut to his knee in Saturday’s win over Dundee United.
Leon Balogun (thigh), Nikola Katic (knee), Joe Aribo (ankle), Brandon Barker (hamstring) and Ryan Jack (calf) are all ruled out.
- This is Lincoln Red Imps’ first-ever meeting against Rangers in all competitions.
- Lincoln Red Imps won their only previous home game against Scottish competition, defeating Celtic 1-0 in July 2016 but lost the tie 3-1 on aggregate overall.
- Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos scored eight goals in five of eight Qualifying matches last season.
Rangers enjoyed an impressive run last season to the Last 16 but this will be a difficult task requiring patience if are to break down a compact Lincoln Red Imps team.
Add in the fact that this match has to be settled with extra time and penalties if needed then playing the long game could be key, especially when it comes to crosses because the box is likely to be packed with home players ready to clear the ball and launch immediate counter-attacks.
Rangers however have made a dominant start to the season with no goals conceded, but this could very well be a whole new strategical game in terms of play although I do expect them to pull through by hook or crook given their strong form.
Prediction: Lincoln Red Imps 0-1 Rangers
Result: Lincoln Red Imps 0-5 Rangers
