2020-21 UEFA Nations League: Wales vs Bulgaria

Wales look to make it two wins from two as they welcome Bulgaria to the Cardiff City Stadium in a tasty looking tie between two teams looking for promotion.

Wales will ensure that they’re sat top with victory before Republic of Ireland face Finland on Sunday teatime, whereas a win will see Bulgaria leapfrog their hosts into top spot of League B4, before Republic of Ireland meet Finland later on Sunday afternoon.

David Brooks will be available for Wales after missing Thursday’s win over Finland with an ankle knock.

Bulgaria have no fresh injury concerns to report with a full squad available for selection.

Stat Attack

  • Wales are unbeaten in four of eight previous meetings against Bulgaria (W3, D1, L4)
  • Bulgaria have won two of their four previous trips to Wales (W2, D1, L1)
  • Wales are unbeaten in their last six home games in all competitions (W5, D1), scoring eight and conceding just twice.

Prediction

After edging out Finland in an impressive display, Wales will be glad to be back on Welsh soil where they haven’t lost in their last six home outings because if they produce another strong attacking display then Bulgaria are in for a tough battle after scrapping to a 1-1 draw against Republic of Ireland on Thursday.

Maintaining their defensive lines and patience will therefore be key for Wales because Bulgaria will likely play defensive again and launch fast paced overhead counter attacks, whilst defending solidly which could well frustrate Wales if they aren’t clinical.

I therefore am expecting a scrappy encounter because Wales will likely dominate but they need to be wary at the back when lose possession but if they turn up with their best foot forward, this should be another home win.

Prediction: Wales 2-0 Bulgaria

Result: Wales 1-0 Bulgaria
