Wycombe to Host Rotherham on Opening Weekend of 2020-21 Championship Season

Sky Bet Championship newcomers, Wycombe Wanderers will begin the 2020-21 season at home to Rotherham.

Both teams were promoted from League One last season with Rotherham going up automatically as runners-up to Coventry, whilst Wycombe secured promotion with victory over Oxford in the Play-Off Final at Wembley.

Coventry City are returning to the second tier for the first time since 2012 as they travel to Bristol City, whilst their tenant vs landlord derbies against Birmingham City at St Andrew’s will take place on weekends of 21 November 2020 and 30 January 2021.

Relegated duo of Bournemouth and Watford will open their season at home under new management against Blackburn and Middlesbrough respectively, whereas Norwich will look to bounce back from relegation with an away trip to Huddersfield Town.

Play-Off Finalists, Brentford will visit Birmingham on the opening weekend before welcoming Huddersfield in their debut league game at the Brentford Community Stadium.

Watford will face fellow relegated rival, Norwich at Vicarage Road in the headline Boxing Day clash, which also includes a Midlands clash between Nottingham Forest and Birmingham City.

The final day will see Norwich face a tough trip to Barnsley whilst other stand out ties include Wycombe’s trip to Middlesbrough and Forest v Preston.

Losing Play-Off semi-finalists, Swansea and Cardiff open their seasons against Sheffield Wednesday and Preston respectively, whilst their Welsh derbies will take place on weekends commencing 12 December 2020 and 20 March 2021.

This season will commence on the weekend of 12 September and conclude on weekend of 8/9 May 2021.
