Five Key Pointers

  • High track temperatures are forecast all weekend which should suit Red Bull if can replicate their pace from the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix last weekend, although Verstappen is yet to win consecutive races in F1.
  • Expect to see Mercedes spending most of Practice focusing on understanding how their car behaves in relation to tyres in hot temperatures, despite reverting back to the preferred three hardest compounds.
  • Spanish Grand Prix has never been ran in August before so teams don’t have any real data to accurately base this weekend on, which could result in some teams struggling more than others and particularly if the hot temperatures come into play.
  • Ferrari struggled for straight-line speed throughout winter testing here in February, so this will be a proper indication of just how much progress they have made since lockdown.
  • Renault and Racing Point both ran well here in pre-season testing so expect to see both teams right in the mix come Qualifying if can continue to show their improvement from the opening five races.
