2019-20 UEFA Europa League: Round of 16 Second Leg – Manchester United vs LASK

Manchester United resume their Europa League campaign as they welcome LASK to Old Trafford in the second leg of their Last 16 tie.

With Man Utd holding a 5-0 lead from the first leg, LASK need to score at least five to take this tie to extra time if not penalties, whereas any result bar a huge loss of five goals or more would see the Red Devils through to the Quarter Finals.

Istanbul Basaksehir or Copenhagen await the winner in Monday’s Quarter-final.

Luke Shaw is ruled out for Man Utd until next season with an ankle injury suffered in a 2-2 draw against Southampton.

Axel Tuanzebe (unspecified) is ruled out whilst Phil Jones is named in a 30-man squad despite struggling with injury.

LASK have no fresh injury concerns to report with a full squad available for selection.

Stat Attack

  • Man Utd are unbeaten in nine matches against Austrian clubs (W8, D1), with this match marking only their second game against LASK, having won first leg 5-0 away in Linz.
  • Half of LASK’s four away Europa League goals this season have come from Marko Raguz who scored twice, whilst Thomas Goiginger and Dominik Frieser both scored once.
  • Mason Greenwood has scored four goals in three of his four home Europa League appearances for Man Utd this season.

Prediction

With a five goal lead, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has an ideal opportunity to rest several key players ahead of what will be a tough run of single knockout matches spread out across 12 days from Monday if Utd go all the way to the final.

LASK meanwhile just simply have to give this game everything that they have and hope that luck is on their side, although I do feel that Utd will have enough about them to comfortably take a routine win regardless of the starting line-up’s quality.

Prediction: Manchester United 2-0 LASK

Result: Manchester United 2-1 LASK (Man Utd win 7-1 on aggregate)
