2019-20 Premier League: Week 37 Roundup

A dramatic penultimate round saw the Premier League survival battle take a twist, whilst the top four battle also is set for a final day showdown.

Bournemouth wasted a huge chance to put pressure on Watford in the battle for survival, falling to a two goal home defeat against Southampton as Danny Ings and Che Adams scored late in each half to gift the Saints victory.

Watford also tasted the feeling of a home loss as Raheem Sterling’s late first-half brace helped Manchester City to a 4-0 win at Vicarage Road, with Phil Foden and Aymeric Laporte also adding their names to the scoresheet after half time.

Aston Villa consequently took full advantage of the Cherries and Hornets’ home losses, beating Arsenal through Trezeguet’s back post smash from Conor Hourihane’s corner, moving themselves out of the relegation zone and put survival in their own hands.

Brighton meanwhile secured safety and a fourth consecutive Premier League season with a goalless home draw against Newcastle.

Richarlison’s sharp header from Glyfi Sigurdsson’s free-kick gifted Everton victory at Bramall Lane to end Sheffield United’s dreams of achieving Europa football next season.

Finally, Norwich had Emiliano Buendia and Josip Drmic sent off in a nine man home defeat against Burnley, whilst Ben Godfrey flicked in an own goal to go with Chris Wood’s overhead to give the Clarets a two goal victory at Carrow Road.
