2019-20 Premier League: Week 30 – Everton vs Liverpool

Date: 21 June 2020 (7:00pm), Venue: Goodison Park

Everton will be looking to delay Liverpool’s title celebrations even further as they welcome Jurgen Klopp’s Reds to Goodison Park in a Merseyside derby clash.

A win for Everton could see them climb up above Burnley into 11th whilst Liverpool can restore their 25 point lead over Manchester City at the summit.

Andre Gomes is a doubt for Everton after suffering a knock in training this week.

Cenk Tosun (knee), Jean-Philippe Gbamin (Achilles), Yerry Mina (quad), Fabian Delph (muscle) and Theo Walcott (abdominal) however all sidelined until further notice, with Tosun and Gbamin definitely out for remainder of season.

Liverpool expect to have Mohamed Salah, Andrew Robertson and Adrian all available despite suffering knocks in training,.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (ankle) is a doubt whilst Xherdan Shaqiri (calf) and Nathaniel Clyne (knee) are still ruled out.

Stat Attack

  • Everton have failed to win any of their last 18 league meetings against Liverpool (D10, L8).
  • Since losing 2-0 at Goodison Park in October 2010, Liverpool are unbeaten in their last nine league trips to Everton (W2, D7).
  • Everton manager – Carlo Ancelotti is unbeaten in eight of 13 previous clashes against Liverpool (W7, D1, L5).
  • Entering this round of fixtures, no other goalkeeper has conceded more league goals this season than Everton’s Jordan Pickford with 46 conceded goals in 29 appearances.
  • Trent Alexander Arnold is the only outfield Liverpool player to have made an error which led to a goal this season.

Prediction

With or without fans, there is no excuse to not give 100% in a Merseyside derby which might actually suit Everton if they can impose themselves on the game against a dominant Liverpool team who struggled after that winter break in February.

This break however has been longer so it’s difficult to predict the effect on either team, let alone the atmosphere of playing behind closed doors which will undoubtedly have a bearing on the match itself.

I therefore am expecting to see a good performance here from Everton as Ancelotti looks to maintain his strong record against the Reds, although I can see Liverpool being keen to get the win to move a game away from the title.

My biggest worry is the fact that in two free TV matches already aired, the home teams both failed to score and if same happens to Newcastle earlier in day then I just can’t see past an away win here if a pattern is clearly emerging in the free TV games.

Prediction: Everton 0-2 Liverpool

Result: Everton 0-0 Liverpool
