2019-20 Sky Bet Championship: Week 20 – Saturday

Luton Town welcome Wigan Athletic to Kenilworth Road in a Sky Bet Championship relegation six pointer.

A win will see Luton move four points clear of the drop, although defeat will allow Wigan to leapfrog them and move out of the relegation zone at the Hatters’ expense.

Martin Cranie will be handed a late fitness test as he nears a return after missing Luton’s last three games, due to an undisclosed injury picked up at Reading before the international break.

Izzy Brown (hamstring), Brendan Galloway (knee) and Glen Rea (undisclosed) are all ruled out, whilst Danny Hylton is still regaining match fitness following nine months out with a knee injury.

Wigan will be without defenders, Danny Fox and Joe Williams due to respective groin and hamstring injuries.

Midfielder, Lee Evans is also absent with a calf injury.

Luton have taken just one win in their last seven outings but have scored in seven of eight home league games this season, with the exception being a 3-0 loss to Hull in late September.

Wigan are winless in their last seven with just two points gained from a possible 21 on offer, although they have scored twice in two of their last three away trips with both finishing as 2-2 draws.

Stat Attack

  • Luton are winless in their last eight meetings with Wigan across all competitions (D3, L5).
  • Wigan are unbeaten in their last five trips to Kenilworth Road (W2, D3).
  • All five draws in this fixture have finished 1-1, with the last such occasion coming in March 2003 at Wigan.

After last weekend’s humiliating performance away at Brentford, Luton need to produce a reaction here if they’re to keep themselves out of the relegation zone.

Wigan meanwhile have just been woeful defensively despite their strong attack as evidenced by a pair of 2-2 draws at Bristol City and Millwall, who are tough opposition but the Latics are still winless on the road.

I therefore can see goals but Luton seem comfortable at home which should just be enough against a Wigan team who can’t win away from the DW Stadium this season.

Prediction: Luton 2-1 Wigan

Result: Luton 2-1 Wigan
