2019-20 Premier League: Week 14 – Chelsea vs West Ham

Chelsea look to reignite their title challenge as they meet free-falling West Ham in a mouth-watering London derby.

A win could send Chelsea third but only if Manchester City lose at Newcastle in the early game, whereas West Ham could move away from the relegation zone with victory.

Callum Hudson-Odoi could return from a hamstring injury for Chelsea after missing their last two games.

Tammy Abraham (hip) and Ross Barkley (ankle) are doubts, whilst Antonio Rudiger (groin) and Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Achilles) are weeks away from returning.

Marco van Ginkel is a long-term absentee with a knee injury.

West Ham have no fresh concerns but will be without Issa Diop who is suspended, having picked up his fifth yellow card of the season last weekend against Tottenham.

Lukasz Fabianski (hip), Manuel Lanzini (shoulder) and Jack Wilshire (groin) are all ruled out, alongside Winston Reid who is close to returning from a long-term knee injury.

Chelsea saw a six league match winning run ended last weekend after blowing a one goal lead to lose at Man City, although they bounced back in midweek with a 2-2 Champions League draw at Valencia.

West Ham are winless in their last seven league games with two draws and five defeats, whilst winning just once on the road all season in which they have taken three draws and two defeats.

Stat Attack

  • Chelsea are unbeaten in four of their last five meetings with West Ham (W2, D2, L1).
  • Both teams have scored in just two of their last five meetings.
  • Chelsea have avoided defeat in their last 14 home games against West Ham (W10, D4)
  • Kepa Arrizabalaga is yet to make a single catch in the league for Chelsea this season.
  • Sebastien Haller is the only West Ham player to have won 50+ aerial battles. winning the ball 88 such battles.

Chelsea have had a tough week against two top teams so I wouldn’t be surprised if they try and control this game, in the same manner that they did against Crystal Palace earlier this month.

West Ham however need to step up their performance and with Michail Antonio fully fit, this would be a great game to get that win to inject a huge slice of confidence into them.

I therefore am expecting a tough battle between two quality teams but Stamford Bridge has been quite a hoodoo for the Hammers, so I am going for a home win.

Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 West Ham

Result: Chelsea 0-1 West Ham United
