After Thursday’s heartbreak against the Netherlands, England face an UEFA Nations League Third-Place Play-Off against Switzerland at the Estadio D. Alfonso Henriques.

Switzerland could rest Xherdan Shaqiri and Granit Xhaka after the pair played the full match against Portugal on Wednesday despite having been in club action just days earlier.
Josip Drmic and Edimilson Fernandes therefore could come in to replace the pair.
England meanwhile could be without Ben Chilwell, Jordan Henderson and Marcus Rashford but they will all receive late fitness tests.
Even if changes are made, Gareth Southgate has decided that he isn’t going to make many changes so that the team is “fairly stable”.
- England are unbeaten in their last 11 meetings with Switzerland (W8, D3).
- Switzerland have kept just two clean sheets in their last 13 matches.
- England have lost both of their two previous third-place play-offs which came in the FIFA World Cup.
England’s main issue is defending because they were poor when clearing their lines at the back, which surely offers Switzerland a great opportunity to test their defence.
I however can see England getting their first ever third-placed finish at a tournament if John Stones is dropped, because they are great when attacking and have a great record against the Swiss.
Prediction: Switzerland 1-2 England
Result: Switzerland 0-0 England (England win 6-5 on penalties)
