2018-19 Sky Bet Championship: Week 38

Second-placed Leeds United meet third-placed Sheffield United at Elland Road in a major Yorkshire derby, where victory could prove decisive in deciding who could go up automatically from the Sky Bet Championship.

Leeds are currently two points clear and a win would see them edge closer towards the Promised Land, whilst the Blades could force this battle to an all or nothing run in where one lost point could be fatal in the race for automatic promotion.

Leeds have no fresh injury concerns as Jack Clarke is available for the first time since suffering a virus during the match against Middlesbrough last month.

Kemar Roofe and Adam Forshaw are close to returning from respective knee injuries but won’t be risked here.

Sheffield United also have no fresh injury concerns although on loan striker, Gary Madine is suspended after being shown a straight red in midweek against Brentford.

Leeds enter this unbeaten in six of their last seven games and are unbeaten at home in four of their last five.

Patrick Bamford and Ezgjan Alioski have both scored for Leeds in their last two home games, with both of Alioski’s goals coming in the second-half.

Sheffield United enter this clash unbeaten in their last nine with six wins and three draws.

Away from Bramall Lane, the Blades have drawn three of their last four with Billy Sharp scoring five goals in their two score draws.

Stat Attack

  • Leeds have won just two of their last five meetings with Sheffield United although both victories were by 1-0 results (W2, L3).
  • Billy Sharp has scored three goals for Sheffield United across two of last three meetings.
  • Leeds are unbeaten in all but one of their eight Yorkshire derbies so far this season (W4, D3, L1).

With promotion at stake, this is an absolute must win for both teams and similar form adds further intrigue to what looks like an unpredictable game.

I am going to stick my neck out here and go for an entertaining score draw.

Prediction: Leeds United 2-2 Sheffield United

Result: Leeds United 0-1 Sheffield United
