2018-19 Sky Bet Championship: Week 34 Roundup

Norwich City stay top of Sky Bet Championship as the promotion battle continues to grow increasingly tighter. 

First-half goals from Jamie Paterson and Callum O’Dowda either side of Kenny McLean’s first-half strike put Bristol City in control at the break, only for Ben Godfrey and a second McLean effort to turn the game around for Norwich in a 3-2 home win. 

Sheffield United remain second after Kieran Dowell’s header proved the difference against fourth-placed West Bromwich Albion, as Leeds split the pair following a home win over second-bottom Bolton.

Middlesbrough benefitted from the Robins’ defeat at Carrow Road as they saw off QPR, through clinical first-half finishes from Jonny Howson and Ashley Fletcher to move fifth.

Down at bottom, Ipswich still prop up the table despite Joe Garner’s late poke securing them a point at Wigan.

Reading remain out of the drop zone at Rotherham’s expense after playing out a 1-1 draw at the Madejski Stadium.

Elsewhere, Yohan Benalouane’s second minute strike helped Nottingham Forest reduce their deflict to seventh-placed Derby to a single point.  

Birmingham remain ninth after Che Adams’ brace snatched them a late point after Blackburn initially came from behind to lead 2-1 through Charlie Mulgrew and Danny Graham. 

Preston and Sheffield Wednesday secured respective 3-1 wins over Millwall and Swansea as they look to mount late play-off challenges.

Said Benrahma collected a hat-trick when Brentford overturned an early Frazier Campbell header to beat Hull 5-1 at Griffin Park.

Finally, Stoke City paid tribute to Gordon Banks as Sam Vokes’ fifth minute opener was cancelled out by Albert Adomah’s sublime second-half strike in a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa.
