Leicester City meet Manchester City in a rematch of last year’s meeting at this stage, whilst Burton Albion of League One aim to produce another cupset as they visit Middlesbrough.
For a struggling Leicester City side, victory here will be crucial to restoring belief as they aim to avoid three quarter final defeats against Manchester City.
City however look likely to field a strong side with Sergio Aguero and Kevin de Bruyne both set to start here, which will make things tougher than they already look for the Foxes.
Realistically, I can see Man City winning this if they continue their recent form but after suffering four defeats in this competition at the Citizens’ hands, perhaps it might actually be fifth time lucky for Leicester.
Prediction: Leicester City 1-2 Manchester City
Result: Leicester City 1-1 Manchester City (Manchester City win 3-1 on penalties)
Both teams come into this in worrying form, with only 11 points between them from last ten league games combined.
Six of those points came from Burton but Boro have taken two draws and a win from their last league games, despite a division separating these two teams which is a huge concern in terms of how I see this match playing out.
There has only been one previous meeting between these sides in this competition, which came in August 2015 when Middlesbrough came from behind to win 2-1 in extra time at the Pirelli Stadium.
This time around, I cannot see another repeat because Middlesbrough’s second string team certainly know how to score against lower league opposition as they demonstrated in opening two rounds.
Ultimately, quality will be decisive which Middlesbrough have in spades and have already scored five goals in first two rounds against lower league competitions.
Prediction: Middlesbrough 2-0 Burton Albion
Result: Middlesbrough 0-1 Burton Albion
