After a busy midweek of domestic cup action, the Championship kicks off the weekend with a tasty Yorkshire derby as Sheffield Wednesday meet Leeds United at Hillsborough.

League leaders, Leeds suffered their first league defeat of season last time out against Birmingham City, so will be looking to bounce back here whilst the Owls aim to continue their improved form.

Sheffield Wednesday have Fernando Forestieri available following a three match ban for a pre season offence.

Gary Hooper meanwhile remains out injured.

Leeds boss, Marcelo Bielsa is set to hand Adam Forshaw his first start of season here but could be without the unfit pair of Pablo Hernandez and Kemar Roofe.

Form

Sheffield Wednesday have made an impressive recovery from one draw in their opening three to record one loss in their last six, away at Nottingham Forest nine days ago.

The Owls however are yet to keep a clean sheet this season but have clinched a quadruple of 2-1 wins plus scored in eight of their nine league matches so far.

Having gone eight league games unbeaten, Leeds suffered a shock defeat last time out when Birmingham snatched the win through Che Adams’ double.

Bielsa’s side have however only kept one clean sheet in four away games, winning 3-0 at Norwich City last month.

Stat Attack

  • Sheffield Wednesday have won three of last five meetings with Leeds (W3, L2).
  • In those last five meetings, four of those matches saw only the winning side score.
  • Sheffield Wednesday saw two players (Hooper and Nuhiu) each net a brace during last season’s two meetings.

Prediction

Leeds will be keen to bounce back from last weekend’s disappointment but Sheffield Wednesday are currently on a roll form wise.

Although there hasn’t been a draw in this fixture since August 2015, I have a feeling that it will be points shared here because both teams are strong and currently in form, therefore cancelling each other out pretty much.

Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 Leeds United

Result: Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 Leeds United
