Having sealed qualification for 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup with a 3-0 win on Friday night over Wales, England Lionesses face their final qualifying group match as they visit Kazakhstan.
With this match being a dead rubber, Phil Neville has already opted to rotate his squad with seven new stars set for their full England debut.
Gabby George, Lucy Staniforth, Lauren Bruton, Mary Earps, Hannah Blundell, Leah Williamson and Beth Mead will all start in Kazakhstan because Neville is “determined to give youngsters the opportunity.”
This means that six players from Friday’s squad have been released back to their clubs early and they’re;
- Alex Greenwood (Manchester United)
- Fran Kirby (Chelsea)
- Melissa Lawley (Manchester City)
- Jill Scott (Manchester City)
- Jodie Taylor (Seattle Reign)
- Ellen White (Birmingham City)
Last Time Out
England won their home leg of this fixture 5-0 after Lawley sent them on their way with a 15th minute goal.
The win was ultimately sealed with a dominant 12 minute period midway through second half, when Kirby scored a penalty before Nikita Parris netted a brace prior to Izzy Christiansen sealing the points with a tap in.
If Neville had stuck with the original squad that he called up for these games and needed a point or victory, I would of predicted a comfortable thrashing here.
I however can see why he has decided to give some youngsters a try-out because they will not only get experience but it will raise the bar in terms of competition, as players complete over the season for a place in the World Cup squad.
Ultimately, they will still get a nice comfortable win here but not as heavy as I initially would of gone for.
Prediction: Kazakhstan Women 0-3 England Lionesses
