2018-19 Carabao Cup: Round Two Draw Highlights

The second round draw for 2018-19 Carabao Cup has taken place so which ties look most exciting?

This round sees the Premier League clubs who failed to qualify for Europe enter alongside Stoke City and Swansea City.

Now, here are the top ties that you should watch out for when the second round gets underway.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Southampton

Without doubt, the top tie of this round!!!

Not only is this an early all Premier League clash but as a local derby, neither team will want to make an early exit and it could well go the distance.

Both league meetings last season finished 1-1 so expect a tough battle here but Southampton won the only previous League Cup meeting in September 2001, when they ran riot in a 3-0 away win.

Either way, this is going to be a tough yet tasty match with a guaranteed major casualty.

Manuel Pellegrini starts cup life at West Ham with a tough trip to Kingsmeadow to face AFC Wimbledon.

Four of last five meetings on this turf ended in draws whilst the Hammers won their only meeting at Upton Park, so expect a real test here as West Ham surely looks for a trophy to justify their summer spending.

West Ham however have reached last eight for past two seasons, so this might not be much of a cupset if a strong Hammers side is fielded.

Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle United

Newcastle United have an inconsistent League Cup record and lost to Nottingham Forest at this stage last season, so could lightning strike twice?

Last two League Cup meetings between these teams have produced at least five goals in each tie with both requiring extra time.

This time, extra time doesn’t exist meaning that this could well be a belter if we get another thriller and even penalties, which is quite a tasty thought given the recent goalfests in this fixture.

Therefore expect drama at the City Ground.
