News, Fake News & Transfer Rumours

Eight days until our first game of the season, thirteen til the transfer window closes. Then, and only then, will we know the make up of our squad for the coming season.

The MFC website offers no hint that the transfer window is even open! And it confirms arrivals and outgoings well after the event.

The ‘rag’ formerly known as the gazette, now has no relationship with the club at all. So, no snippets or breaking news from there. They simply have their ‘journalists’ sat at a keyboard all day, scouring Sky Sports, Twitter and Fly Me To The Moon and listening to TalkSPORT.

They then  they regurgitate unsubstantiated rumours or sit smugly at a cam and talk amongst themselves about their scoop!

Resolved in next fortnight!! Investigative journalism at its best. Well done Gazette for stating the obvious

The Northern Echo occasionally has some news the others don’t, but it will be tucked well away after the Sunderland, Darlo, Spennymoor and Bishop Auckland stories.

There are then numerous websites that collate rumours from everywhere. Just type in, ‘Middlesbrough’ and ‘transfers’ and hey presto, a myriad of reports appear.

The Montevideo Mercury reporting that former Boro star, Gaston Ramirez, wants a move away from his current club or the Seville Star confirming that ex Boro striker Christian Stuani has signed a one year extension.

Well over 50% of them have only a tenuous link to the current Boro team. And even those that do, usually show a link from one hour ago stating that Sunderland are interested in Grant Leadbitter or other old news.

Where are we to get our news from?, Who can we trust? The short answer is nowhere and nobody.

Is there a £18 million release clause in Traore’s contract? Did Villa insist on a sell on clause entitling them to 20%?As usual we are kept in the dark. You can understand some reluctance from the club to divulge transfer targets, but they don’t say a thing. No doubt, if and when Adama is sold, it will be for an undisclosed fee!

In the meantime, we’ll dutifully listen to BBC Tees sports bulletins, just in case there’s news.
Apart from the two new boys, I feel sorry for Randolph, Friend and Clayton. At the last count, they were the only 3 in the whole squad who haven’t been linked with a move elsewhere.
