2018 FIFA World Cup: Day 20

After three days of last 16 action, we finally will know our full Quarter-Finals lineup once Day 20 is done.

England headlines the last pair of ties from the round of 16 as they face Colombia whilst Sweden meet Switzerland in the daytime match.

Sweden vs Switzerland

Having got out of the ‘Group of Death’ as group winners, Sweden will look to push on as they face a solid Switzerland side.

Both sides have key players suspended which only serves to make this even more difficult to call.

Luckily for Sweden, their counter attacking style has worked so far meaning that Sebastian Larsson won’t be missed much here.

Switzerland meanwhile are without a goal at this stage of a World Cup for 64 years, so have history against them here.

I therefore am not expecting anything too entertaining from this match but the momentum appears to be with Switzerland, who have lost just once in their last 25 games across all competitions.

Extra time and penalties wouldn’t be surprising here but I just feel that Sweden might find something late on.

Prediction: Sweden 1-0 Switzerland

England vs Colombia

Gareth Southgate faces judgement day as he discovers whether his squad rotation against Belgium was correct decision or if it proves costly as England meet Colombia with a Quarter-Final spot at stake.

Interestingly, these sides met 20 years ago with England running out 2-0 winners for their second of three wins in this fixture alongside two draws.

That is a good omen to have given that England haven’t won a knockout game since 2006, when they beat Colombia’s fellow South-Americans – Ecuador, before losing to Portugal in last eight on penalties.

Add in Colombia potentially missing James Rodriguez then England should have a shot at victory because in opening match against Japan, Los Cafeteros were pretty ordinary at times.

They cannot afford that here against a fresh Harry Kane and co who will punish any sloppiness with their high pressing tactics.

Although I personally am unsure if football will be coming home, I think that the Three Lions will do it here if Colombia don’t play James Rodriguez.

Prediction: England 2-1 Colombia
