After impressing in a 2-1 win over Nigeria on Saturday at Wembley, England now meet Costa Rica at Elland Road.
This match represents Gareth Southgate’s last chance to fine tune his starting eleven before their World Cup campaign commences on June 18 against Tunisia.
Jack Butland will start in goal for England as he fights Everton’s Jordan Pickford for the no.1 spot.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fabian Delph, Phil Jones and Jamie Vardy are all expected to feature here.
Alexander-Arnold, Delph and Vardy were all unused subs in Saturday’s win over Nigeria, whilst Jones was absent for personal reasons.
Costa Rica have a fully fit squad to choose from for this match.
- There has been just one previous meeting between these teams, drawing 0-0 in their 2014 World Cup clash.
- 14 of Costa Rica’s squad for the last meeting are present this time around compared to just five for England.
This friendly although representing the last chance for Southgate to finalise his squad, looks like it will be used to give fringe players a chance to impress.
Costa Rica however will be tough opposition with a back five although when attacking, they switch to a 3-4-3 formation.
That switch during match when pushing forward is going to be key if England are to head to Russia off the back of two friendly wins.
Although I think that England have enough to nick this, I can see another 0-0 draw between these sides.
Prediction: England 0-0 Costa Rica
