2017-18 UEFA Champions League Semi Finals – 2nd Leg; Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich (Real Madrid lead 2-1 on aggregate)

This week sees the UEFA Champions League finalists confirmed with Real Madrid kicking off the second leg stage at home to Bayern Munich.

Currently holding a 2-1 advantage from first leg, Real will come here as favourites but Bayern can’t be written off yet.

Team news

Real Madrid could be without right-back, Dani Carvajal after the Spaniard picked up a hamstring injury.

Winger, Isco trained on Monday despite a shoulder injury but faces a late fitness test.

Bayern Munich enter this match without Arjen Robben after the Dutchman limped out of the first leg with a leg injury.

David Alaba (thigh) and Javi Martinez (head) are both expected to feature in the squad.

Ronaldo ahead of Juventus game

Real Madrid beat Leganes at home on Saturday to extend their unbeaten home run in all competitions to nine wins in last ten at Santiago Bernabeu.

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored six goals in Real Madrid’s last four home games so will be the danger man here.

Bayern Munich won 4-1 at home to Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday and have lost just four away games this season across all competitions.

Robert Lewandowski (5) and Sandro Wagner (4) has scored nine of Bayern’s 23 goals between them since domestic action resumed following last month’s international break.

Stat Attack

  • No team has managed to overturn a 2-1 deflict from first-leg at home in the Champions League on seven previous occasions.
  • Bayern are on a six match losing streak against Real Madrid since beating them at this stage in 2011-12 on penalties.
  • Real Madrid last failed to score at home in Europe seven years ago in April 2011, coming at this stage against Barcelona who went on to win the trophy that season.

Real Madrid’s main aim has to be a repeat of their last home game in Champions League, when Juventus ran riot before falling to an injury time penalty by Ronaldo.

Bayern meanwhile know that they can take this tie all the way to penalties, having previously lost at home 2-1 in April 2012 against the Galacticos before winning here by same result and progressing via a shootout.

Neither team impressed last week so I can see a draw here with Real winning on aggregate.

Prediction: Real Madrid 1-1 Bayern Munich (Real Madrid win 3-2 on aggregate)

Result: Real Madrid 2-2 Bayern Munich (Real Madrid win 4-3 on aggregate)
