The 2017-18 FA Cup Semi Final draw has taken place with one guaranteed blockbuster tie.
Chelsea, Manchester United, Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur were all in the hat but who drawn who and which sides will be favourites to make Wembley.
Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur
The biggest tie from this season’s semi final draw without a doubt.
These teams have met in FA Cup 14 times with Manchester United winning the last three clashes.
Tottenham however won at home when met in January in Premier League, so will be confident of victory. This time however, they will be playing as the away team.
Many critics believe that Mauricio Pochettino and Spurs need to start winning trophies if want to become serious contenders.
I do agree with that thought otherwise we could lose the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli to La Liga.
Add in Spurs’ strong form this season at Wembley against the big teams then they will fancy their chances here.
These teams also met at this stage in 1961-62 with Tottenham taking a 3-1 win.
With this competition also representing both teams’ only shot at silverware, I expect a competitive game, especially given that United have won their last three cup trips to Wembley.
Ultimately with a fresh from injury Kane back by then, I am backing Tottenham here.
Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur to make final
Chelsea vs Southampton
Unlike tonight’s quarter final win over Leicester, this should be relatively straight forward for Chelsea.
They however have a woeful FA Cup record against Southampton, losing four of last five meetings in this competition.
That comes despite winning their last meeting 5-1 in January 2013, having crashed out via replay in the first three FA Cup clashes.
Southampton meanwhile will be keen to have revenge on Wembley after losing there last season in League Cup final, 3-2 to Manchester United.
The Saints might be fighting for survival in league but this game will offer them an opportunity to build further momentum on that front if deliver a solid performance.
As a player, Mark Hughes won five trophies at Wembley with his last FA Cup winners medal coming against Chelsea.
That and the Saints’ great FA Cup record against Chelsea will surely see them as slight favourites.
Chelsea could very well be busy fighting for a top four spot so might be distracted slightly, so I think Southampton might just have the edge here.
Prediction: Southampton to make final
