Tottenham Hotspur has a instant chance to put European heartbreak behind them as they visit Bournemouth in second Super Sunday match.
Bournemouth have a winger crisis on their hands with Ryan Fraser, Jordan Ibe and Marc Pugh all facing late fitness tests.
Defoe could be recalled to the starting eleven but defender, Tyrone Mings remains absent with a back injury.
Tottenham are monitoring Eric Dier after he injured his elbow in midweek vs Juventus.
Centre back, Toby Alderweireld is back training but won’t be risked here.
Full back, Sergio Aurier is in line to start after serving an European suspension last time out.
Bournemouth has lost just one league match in 2018, taking 13 points out of a possible 24.
During that run, they have kept just one clean sheet and conceded 12 goals despite scoring 13 goals.
The Cherries are also unbeaten in last five homes dating back to a 3-3 Boxing Day thriller against West Ham.
Taking that festive home game into account, Bournemouth have scored nine goals in second half compared to two in first half.
Tottenham’s 17 match unbeaten run in all competitions came to an end on Wednesday when Juventus dumped them out of UEFA Champions League.
League wise, Spurs haven’t lost since a mid December defeat at Manchester City, winning eight and drawing three.
Their domestic away form however has been wobbly in 2018 with four draws and two wins across league and FA Cup.
Out of the four draws, two finished 1-1 and other two ended 2-2.
Where game can be won or lost?
|Per Game Average||Bournemouth (home)||Tottenham Hotspur (away)|
|Shots on Target||4.43||4.79|
|Goals per First Half %||30||45.8|
|Goals per Second Half %||70||54.2|
Tottenham have the edge in attack but Bournemouth could well win the game, if can get some more corners and are clinical with those opportunities.
Both teams tend to perform better after the break but Bournemouth definitely will be the stronger threats for me given their stronger goal per half average.
Although the yellow card PGA are exact same, the Cherries could try and frustrate Spurs if are at their best because of Tottenham’s worse average for red cards.
This will be a tough game for Bournemouth who will have an angry Tottenham to contain.
Although I reckon both teams will score, Tottenham should just about have a bit more quality in them.
Prediction: Bournemouth 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur
Jake predicts: Bournemouth 1-3 Tottenham Hotspur
Result: Bournemouth 1-4 Tottenham Hotspur
