Arsenal vs Chelsea

After 28 festive games, we are now on the home straight as Chelsea head to the Emirates to face Arsenal, in the penultimate game of this festive season.

Arsenal are currently in a three way battle for the last Champions League spot whilst Chelsea chase Manchester United for second spot.

Team News

Arsenal are missing several players for this huge clash.

Sead Kolasinac has been ruled out with an ankle injury.

Laurent Koscielny has suffered another Achilles problem, after it flared up again against West Bromwich Albion.

Nacho Monreal and Aaron Ramsay are still missing with injury.

Mesut Ozil could feature if he passes a fitness test.

Chelsea are still missing David Luiz with a knee injury as they prepare to again rotate their squad.

Charly Musonda J.r. is the other absentee as he recovers from a groin injury.

Game of two halves

Arsenal are definitely in store for a tough test because Chelsea will be dangerous in the first half.

Away from Stamford Bridge, the Blues have averaged 55.7% of their away goals before half time.

Arsenal meanwhile fare better in second half with 60% of their home goals coming in that period.

Clinical finish key?

The result could come down to whoever has the best clinical finish because both teams seem evenly matched.

Per game average Arsenal (home) Chelsea (away)
Corners 7.5 5
Fouls 10.1 9.1
Shots 20.2 14.3
Shots on Target 7.7 4.7
Goals 2.5 1.8

Arsenal might commit one more foul but there isn’t much there to suggest that Chelsea’s away discipline will be key.

As is normal, the home side has the better shot and on target averages but just an average of 0.7 goals split both teams.

Overall, those stats show how tough this match will be.

The original tie finished 0-0 at Chelsea in September but I think that there will be goals here.

Arsenal have netted in each of their home games so far, making this a challenging task for Antonio Conte’s men

After scoring in their first seven away games, Chelsea have drawn blank in two of their last three games on the road.

Should that not change here then expect an Arsenal win but I reckon this will be a draw.

Prediction: Arsenal 1-1 Chelsea

Jake predicts: Arsenal 1-3 Chelsea

Result: Arsenal 2-2 Chelsea
