Premier League

Tuesday 12th December 2017 Premier League fixtures

Another round of Premier League games have arrived with the second of three midweek fixture rounds.

Tuesday’s main action sees Chelsea travel Huddersfield off the back of a shock defeat at West Ham United.

The other two matches sees Burnley host a struggling Stoke City side whilst Crystal Palace face a tough test against Watford.

Burnley vs Stoke City

Burnley can maintain their excellent home form, which has seen them suffer just three defeats at Turf Moor this season in all competitions.

Stoke on other hand are woeful on the road, with just three away wins in this calendar year. Just one of those wins came during this season, against Watford at Vicarage Road.

Statistics show that Sean Dyche’s Clarets are outplayed in corners and shots but they are clinical in turning their shots on target into goals.

Stoke’s away numbers however are better than Burnley’s home record when it comes to the goals figure, despite being outnumbered in nearly everything else.

Their red card average is also better with no reds shown away from the BET365 Stadium.

With both teams strong in various areas, a draw would be best scenario but I reckon that Burnley will maintain their form with victory here.

Prediction: Burnley 2-0 Stoke City

Jake predicts: Burnley 2-0 Stoke City

Result: Burnley 1-0 Stoke City

Crystal Palace vs Watford

Crystal Palace drew 2-2 with Bournemouth on Saturday whilst Watford lost at Burnley.

That draw left them bottom but they will relish this match coming quickly given their superior record.

Palace have won four of the last seven clashes in this fixture to Watford’s single win alongside two draws.

They are also unbeaten in five home games and could equal their longest unbeaten home run of six games. That record was set between February and April 1993 when they got relegated.

Could history be about to repeat itself?

Watford have already improved on their away record from last season with 13 points, one point more than from the whole of last season.

That is courtesy of 12 different goal scorers so will be dangerous here.

On paper, this could be a quiet affair but I expect a high scoring draw given Palace’s improved form and Watford’s dangerous players all over pitch.

Prediction: Crystal Palace 2-2 Watford

Jake predicts: Crystal Palace 0-1 Watford

Result: Crystal Palace 2-1 Watford

Huddersfield Town vs Chelsea

Huddersfield will be looking for back to back home wins here after five games without victory.

Chelsea however will be keen to deliver an immediate reaction to Saturday’s shock defeat at West Ham.

The Terriers last beat Chelsea in mid October 1999, 36 seasons after their last league double and wins over the Blues home/away.

Since that double 54 years ago, Chelsea have dominated with a W10 D3 L2 record.

Turning our attention towards the match, Chelsea should dominate this one because they are stronger in all key areas.

Key areas Huddersfield (home) Chelsea (away)
Corners 5.25 5
Fouls 8.75 10.38
Shots 9.88 13.25
Shots on Target 3.13 4.25
Goals 1 1.88

If Huddersfield want to get anything from this game, they need to make their corners count. If not, expect a comfortable win for Chelsea.

Prediction: Huddersfield Town 1-4 Chelsea

Jake predicts: Huddersfield Town 1-3 Chelsea

Result: Huddersfield Town 1-3 Chelsea
