This weekend’s Premier League action kicks off with a major title chase clash as Manchester United host Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.
Both teams are in second and third, tied on 20 points – five behind leaders Manchester City so a win will be key, if want to stay in touching distance.
Manchester United are expected to have Eric Bailly and Phil Jones back after injuries.
Paul Pogba is missing with thigh issues whilst Marouane Fellaini is still recovering from a twisted knee.
Michael Carrick is yet to return from a calf injury whilst Zlatan Ibrahimovic is not back till mid December at earliest.
Tottenham have lost Harry Kane to a minor hamstring tear.
Victor Wanyama is Spurs’ only other short term absentee with a knee injury.
Attacking midfielder, Erik Lamela is still out with a hip problem.
Tottenham’s 11 match unbeaten run in all competitions ended on Wednesday with defeat to West Ham in Carabao Cup action.
Last time out in the league, Spurs thrashed Liverpool 4-1 so will be hoping to resume their winning run here.
- Man Utd have won three of the last five clashes at Old Trafford with the last two being by a 1-0 score line.
- Jose Mourinho has beaten Mauricio Pochettino’s clubs by a 27-8 goal aggregate across all their meetings as managers.
- United have kept clean sheets so far at home whist Tottenham’s conceded goals away from Wembley have come after half time.
- Both have similar shot on target and goals per home/away game averages but Red Devils edge ahead with (6.75/3.5 goals) to Spurs’ (6/3).
This will be a tough game for Spurs without Kane and United are yet to concede at home.
A draw would probably do both teams good in long run but a win is better in case Man City start to pull away in the title fight.
Ultimately, I can see Tottenham nicking it if Jose Mourinho parks the Man U bus.
Prediction: Manchester United 0-1 Tottenham Hotspur
Result: Manchester United 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur
