Saturday 21st October 2017 PL 3pm + Southampton vs WBA predictions

Tomorrow’s main game is an intriguing clash between Chelsea and Watford at lunchtime.

Never the less, there are still plenty of action at 3pm as Manchester United travel to Huddersfield whilst manager less Leicester travel to Swansea in the 3 o clockers.

The day’s action then ends with Southampton versus West Bromwich Albion at St Marys in the evening.

Huddersfield vs Manchester United

Huddersfield have struggled lately so this will be a tough test.

Manchester United are still unbeaten, despite drawing a blank in their last league game at Liverpool.

Given the gulf in difference between both teams, I can see just one outcome here even if Romelu Lukaku again struggles to score against newly promoted teams.

Prediction: Huddersfield 0-3 Manchester United

Jake predicts: Huddersfield 0-4 Manchester United

Result: Huddersfield 2-1 Manchester United

Manchester City vs Burnley

High flying Burnley enter this fixture unbeaten away from home but come up against the league leaders, Manchester City.

City will have Sergio Aguero back which will be key, given that he scored three of the four goals across this fixture home/away last season when City won both 2-1.

With Sean Dyche linked to Leicester City, the Claret players are bound to want to get something here to show how key he is to their club.

Should the lunchtime match end in a draw, I would expect Burnley to fight hard, knowing that victory at the Etihad would send them fourth.

Pep Guardiola’s side however are ruthless, having delivered plenty of beatings on their home turf with Liverpool and Stoke being two notable victims.

Burnley will give their all but the Citizens have goal scorers all over the pitch and a deadly goal maker in Kevin de Bruyne. In the end, City will comfortably win this marring any off day.

Prediction: Manchester City 3-1 Burnley

Jake predicts: Manchester City 3-0 Burnley

Result: Manchester City 3-0 Burnley

Newcastle vs Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace head to Tyneside in a confident mood after beating the reigning champions, Chelsea last Saturday.

This match has an interesting backdrop because Newcastle fans will be in full voice, celebrating the news that Mike Ashley is selling the club.

The Magpies’ fans will also be happy knowing that their team hold the upper hand in this fixture, having won 12 of their last 13 meetings.

Palace need to ignore that stat and focus on moving forward.

Having loanee, Ruben Loftus-Cheek back from ineligibility will provide a boost because he has been a bright light in progressing forwards over the last month.

Away form however might drag the Eagles back down to Earth, having not won on the road since April at Anfield and is just one of two wins in their last five away games.

It’s easy to say 0-0 here but Newcastle are strong at home under Rafa Benitez and fans will be in a party mood. That will spur the players on and can see the Toon Army nicking all three points.

Prediction: Newcastle 1-0 Crystal Palace

Jake predicts: Newcastle 1-1 Crystal Palace

Result: Newcastle 1-0 Crystal Palace

Stoke vs Bournemouth

Bournemouth travel to Stoke needing a win to keep those just above the safety line in sight.

Form for both teams is poor because the Potters have just one win in their last seven games, whilst Bournemouth have lost their last four away games.

Realistically, this is must win for both sides and with not much of interest stat wise, I can see a dull draw here.

Prediction:  Stoke 0-0 Bournemouth

Jake predicts: Stoke 1-0 Bournemouth

Result: Stoke 1-2 Bournemouth

Swansea vs Leicester

Leicester are without manager, Craig Shakespeare after he was unexpectedly sacked on Tuesday. Will that shock them into victory?

Swansea however won at home last weekend for the first time this season so will want another win here.

The good news is that the home team have won five of the last six meetings in this fixture.

Swansea have only three home goals to their name this season with two coming in the second half.

Their visitors also scored more of their goals in that half evening things out with only two opposition goals coming in the opening 45 minutes.

Leicester on other hand have scored half of their four away goals so far in each half (2 goals per half).

The per home/away game average for Swansea and Leicester respectively however might swing things the Foxes’ way.

Looking at Swansea’s per home game average on left hand graphic, their opposition dominate everything from shots on target to goals and yellow cards.

The Swans however is slightly better when it comes to getting corners with an average five corners per home game

Leicester’s per away game average on right hand side however tells a slightly different story because they are more aggressive fouls wise.

Their shot average compared to those hosting them is the biggest issue because they have just averaged 8.75 shots in away games.  Their hosts have averaged 20.75 shots in comparison so need to improve in that area.

If compare both teams directly, the Foxes have averaged 0.5 more shots than Swansea but both have averaged 2.25 of those shots on target.

Ultimately, those stats suggest that defence and clinical finishing will be key but a 1-1 draw is probably the best bet.

Prediction: Swansea 1-1 Leicester

Jake predicts: Swansea 1-3 Leicester

Result: Swansea 1-2 Leicester

Southampton vs West Bromwich Albion

Both teams are safely in midtable but Southampton is a tough place for goals this season.

Southampton struggled last week, coming from behind twice to draw 2-2 with Newcastle so need a strong performance here, given that their only home win of 2017 came two months ago against West Ham.

West Brom are also struggling with just one win in their last 13 away games and two in 17 overall.

Add in the fact that this fixture has seen just 21 goals in 14 top flight meetings and have ingredients for a boring match.

Prediction: Southampton 0-0 WBA

Jake predicts: Southampton 0-1 WBA

Result: Southampton 1-0 WBA
