With domestic football back in full flow, midweek attention turns to European football.
Tuesday’s action sees Tottenham travel to Real Madrid whilst Manchester City host Napoli in two huge clashes.
Liverpool head to NK Maribor in the other match involving British action.
Real Madrid v Tottenham Hotspur
Both teams enter this fixture equal on points at the top of group H.
Real Madrid’s home record this season in all competitions has been rather worrying with just two wins and losses and a draw from five home games.
Tottenham on other hand are unbeaten on the road so will be ready to cause trouble at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Galacticos however has a supreme home record in the Champions League, having not lost in eight years.
Cristiano Ronaldo however will face a test against Harry Kane as these two superstars collide for the first time.
Ronaldo has scored 94 goals in 90 Champions League games but Kane has been involved in all of Tottenham’s goals so far.
A draw is probably likely given that both teams can afford a point apiece here and I think that will be the result.
Prediction: Real Madrid 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur
Result: Real Madrid 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur
Manchester City v Napoli
Manchester City enter this fixture in deadly form, having avoided defeat in all competitions so far.
Napoli themselves are unbeaten domestically but lost their opening away game of the group at Shakhtar Donetsk.
These teams have met at this stage before six years ago, drawing 1-1 at the Etihad before the Italian side won their home leg 2-1.
City have just conceded five goals since August whilst Napoli have let in eight so expect to see most of the action come in the middle.
Both teams however have scored a combined 71 goals between them in this period so have plenty of goals within them.
In my opinion, the fact that Napoli are yet to win on English soil will give the Citizens that extra edge to win this.
Prediction: Manchester City 2-1 Napoli
Result: Manchester City 2-1 Napoli
NK Maribor v Liverpool
This is the first meeting between NK Maribor and Liverpool but the Reds need a win to boost their qualification hopes in group E.
Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Loris Karius will be in goal but there will be no other squad rotation changes.
On Saturday, Liverpool put in an impressive display despite their defensive fragilities against Manchester United.
They now need to build on that performance and not revert to their usual wobbly selves, often seen at the back.
One good omen is that Maribor has only beaten one English side, albeit down in Europa League vs Wigan in 2013-14 season.
The Slovenian side are however winless at home in Champions League action. That can only further boost the Reds’ confidence of a win.
Saying that, Liverpool themselves are in a rut, having not won any of their last seven games in this competition.
I however can see that luckless run ending here with a comfortable away win.
Prediction: NK Maribor 0-2 Liverpool
Result: NK Maribor 0-7 Liverpool
