Now that this week’s round of Champions League games are done, attention now switches to the Europa League.
Arsenal travel to BATE Borisov looking to make it two wins from two in the early evening match. After that is complete, Everton host Apollon Limassol as both teams look for the first win of their Europa campaign.
BATE Borisov vs Arsenal (6:00pm)
Arsene Wenger this time around is set to play a weakened team in Belarus as his Arsenal team meet BATE Borisov for the first time in Europe.
We could see a mix of youth and fringe players start here as Arsenal prepare for Brighton on Sunday. Ainsley Maitland-Niles Reiss Nelson could find themselves getting a run out here alongside Jack Wilshire and Oliver Giroud.
With there being no history behind this fixture, fans can probably expect a difficult test given Arsenal’s current away woes.
Add in BATE’s strong home record, having not lost in European competition since a 2-0 loss to Barcelona in 2015-16 UEFA Champions League group stages, you have a unpredictable fixture.
With tonight’s clash being a clean sheet, its easy to predict a draw but I think Arsenal will just edge a tight game here.
Prediction: BATE Borisov 1-2 Arsenal
Result: BATE Borisov 2-4 Arsenal
Everton vs Apollon Limassol (8:05pm)
Everton were delivered a shock drubbing a fortnight ago in Atalanta so will be hoping for a stronger performance here.
Toffee fans will have to make do without striker, Oumar Niasse after Ronald Koeman left him out of the Europa League squad. Since then, he has gone on to become the star player in their team.
Limassol managed to draw at home with Lyon so will be tough to break down. They however have struggled on the road, losing their last five away games to boot.
Cypriot clubs have played English clubs 12 times in European competitions and are yet to record an away victory in six visits.
Ultimately, Everton might be vulnerable but can see them pulling through here comfortably.
Prediction: Everton 2-0 Apollon Limassol
Result: Everton 2-2 Apollon Limassol
