Sky Sports’ Super Sunday sees the fifth round of Premier League fixtures completed with the last of their red vs blue club weekend.
In the third round of this weird weekend of Sky picks, Chelsea host Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in a key London derby for both clubs.
The whole weekend is rounded off as Romelu Lukaku and Wayne Rooney face each other at Old Trafford, having switched clubs this summer as Manchester United host Everton.
Chelsea vs Arsenal (1:30pm)
After both teams put in spirited home performances on the European stage, this is set to be a feisty battle.
Chelsea annihilated Qarabag 6-0 here on Tuesday with a changed side, whilst Arsenal beat Koln 3-1 on Thursday in a match, that will be remembered more for the off pitch dramas and delayed kick off.
Those results will certainly have both teams keen to taste the smell of victory here. Arsenal however hold the upper hand, having won their last two competitive meetings (2017 FA Cup Final and Community Shield).
The Blues will argue though that they don’t count because weren’t league games. On that front, Chelsea have won eight of their last eleven clashes despite suffering defeat this time last year at the Emirates.
Throw in Arsenal’s poor defensive record here of conceding 15 whilst scoring a solidary pair of goals. since this fixture ended 4-4 back in 2011 and you have a clear backer.
As for the score, I think both teams will score but Chelsea will get a comfortable win anyway to leave Arsenal languishing in 12th place.
Prediction: Chelsea 3-1 Arsenal
Jake predicts: Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal
Result: Chelsea 0-0 Arsenal
Manchester United vs Everton
Everton come here in disastrous form, having lost their last two matches by a 3-0 score line.
Manchester United however are unbeaten this season, having won five of their games with one draw in all competitions, excluding the UEFA Super Cup.
Toffees boss, Ronald Koeman speaking after Thursday’s embarrassing loss to Atalanta said; “This is not the time or place to criticise players, I need to criticise myself because the team was not prepared for this tonight.”
He better have the squad prepared for this because they were totally atrocious defence wise on Thursday night. Unlike Atalanta, there will be no let offs here against the Red Devils if put in a similar effort.
In regards to criticism, he should of criticised certain players there and then so that they had plenty of time to reflect.
The Thursday-Sunday routine is already tough but by allowing them the rest of that evening to do own reflection, he is giving them time to try and excuse their performance.
Its all well being a nice manager but after particular performances, some players need to be criticised heavily rather than behind closed doors in order to help them develop and improve mentally.
Switching back to this fixture now, Man U have lost only one home fixture against Everton in the Premier League era.
Last season however saw both meetings end 1-1. There hasn’t been three straight draws in this fixture so should see a winner here.
Although both clubs have spent big this summer, Jose Mourinho’s men seem like they can get a resounding win here. I am therefore definitely backing them and if Everton don’t turn up, it will be a one sided goalfest.
Prediction: Manchester United 3-0 Everton
Jake predicts: Manchester United 2-1 Everton
Result: Manchester United 4-0 Everton
