2017-18 Champions League Group Stage 1 – Wednesday

Manchester United, Celtic and Chelsea were all in action last night, leaving Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur to take centre stage.

All three has different opposition with Liverpool and Spurs facing the toughest opposition of all three.

Liverpool vs Sevilla

These teams last met in the 2016 Europa League final with Sevilla winning 3-1, after coming from behind.

Despite earning a domestic ban, Sadio Mane will be expected to start this match for Liverpool.

Sevilla reached the last 16 last season but lost to a plucky Leicester City despite winning the first leg. Will they fare better this time on English soil?

Domestically, both have had an even start picking up seven points so this match could be a tight one.

The Spanish side has two draws and two defeats against English opposition on past visits.

Liverpool fans will want a reaction to Saturday’s 5-0 annihilation against Manchester City. On that note, I expect the Reds to win here.

Prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Sevilla

Result: Liverpool 2-2 Sevilla

Feyenoord vs Manchester City

This is the first meeting between last season’s Eredivisie champions and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Both teams have scary omens hanging over them ahead of this fixture. Feyenoord have lost six of their last nine games against English opponents whilst City are without a win in two away games to Dutch teams in all competitions.

The Citizens are yet to draw 0-0 in Champions League and have only five clean sheets since they first qualified for this competition.

With this being their first meeting, its difficult to read much but I reckon City will deliver another battering to follow up Saturday’s 5-0 win over Liverpool and destroy their omen.

Prediction: Feyenoord 0-3 Manchester City

Result: Feyenoord 0-4 Manchester City

Tottenham Hotspur vs Borussia Dortmund

This is going to be a real test of how bad Tottenham’s luck is at Wembley in a rough group, featuring Real Madrid and APOEL.

This fixture has been played just twice before in the 2015-16 Europa League last 16. Dortmund routed Spurs 5-1 on aggregate with a 2-1 win at White Hart Lane. With Tottenham now at Wembley, will things be different?

Fast forward 18 months, Spurs won’t be resting players and with Harry Kane starting to find his best form, expect a difficult challenge for the German side.

Tottenham’s AWOL list only includes a suspended Dele Alli and Victor Wanyama. Dortmund however have seven players out of action including; Julian Weigl, Marco Reus and Andre Schurrle alongside defender, Marc Bartra.

I expect this match to be challenging but Spurs will probably sneak this, due to having plenty of options available on bench.

Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 Borussia Dortmund

Result: Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 Borussia Dortmund
