Derby vs Hull

After a fortnight’s break, the EFL returns with an exciting Sky Bet Championship clash between Derby and Hull.

Team News

Derby could give Wales international, Tom Lawrence his first start since signing from Leicester on a permanent deal.

Maikel Kieftenbeld is definitely sidelined after his deadline day move from Birmingham City wasn’t ratified by EFL.

Hull City boss, Leonid Slutsky is expected to hand debut starts to new signings; Nouha Dicko, Jackson Irvine and Fikayo Tomori.

He however is missing Ryan Mason, Markus Henriksen and Frazier Campbell to injury.

Tightly poised

Derby have lost four of their last five home meetings with Hull, including a 3-0 defeat in first leg of the 2015-16 play off semi finals.

They however achieved a regular season double over the Humberside club during that campaign.

The Rams home record however is very difficult to break with only two defeats in their last 20 home games. Hull however have only won one away game in that period so will be looking to end that rout here.

Golden Nugent?

Derby striker, David Nugent knows all about scoring against Hull, having netted four goals in his last six appearances against the Tigers.

Could he be the key player that determines the winner of this cup?

This is a match where both sides cancel each other out home/away form wise.

Bearing in mind that several players will of just returned from international duty in past couple of days, the start could be very telling in who looks ready to push on and score a goal.

Hull saw seven players away as far as Australia with their national teams whilst Derby only lost four players.

Those four players were with home national teams in Republic of Ireland, Scotland or Wales so have clocked up less air miles than Hull’s batch.

Ultimately, I think that could swing the result Derby’s way.

Prediction: Derby 1-0 Hull

Result: Derby 5-0 Hull
