Today we see Middlesbrough return to the Riverside Stadium to face Scunthorpe United in the newly named Carabao Cup.
Middlesbrough are expected to make wholesale changes for today’s game compared to the one that played last time out against Nottingham Forest.
Veteran keeper Dimi Konstantopolous will more than likely get a game today in front of the home side as will Grant Leadbitter.
Garry Monk could use today’s game as chance to get Daniel Ayala back up to match fitness after he has missed the last three games through injury.
Swansea loanee Connor Roberts will be expected to make his first team debut today and Fabio could also find himself starting.
Scunthorpe may see this game as an opportunity to rest players themselves and focus on the league.
Middlesbrough going into this game after an average start in the league.
Winning two at home and losing two away has given the Teessiders an very average start to the season and after defeat to Nottingham Forest at the weekend they’ll be hoping to get back to winning ways.
Scunthorpe will be hoping to cause an upset here today.
In the last round of the cup they needed extra time and penalties to beat League Two opponents Notts County and they’ll certainly be hoping the home side has a lapse of concentration today.
I can only see one winner here and that’s Boro.
Scunthorpe will give Boro a tough game but Boro’s quality throughout the pitch will get Garry Monk’s side back to winning ways.
Middlesbrough 3-0 Scunthorpe
Result: Middlesbrough 3-0 Scunthorpe
