Night Animals

Which teams will be partying like night animals?

After Tuesday’s Sky Bet Championship games saw plenty of drama, Wednesday belong to the animal nicknamed clubs as Sheffield Wednesday hoost Sunderland whilst QPR hope to net Norwich and secure a win.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Sunderland

Sunderland will be looking to build on Sunday’s impressive away win at Norwich. This time, they face a strong Sheffield Wednesday side who are too expected to fight for promotion.

The Owls bolster a strong strike force of Gary Hooper, Fernando Foresteri, Jordan Rhodes and Sam Winnall. Sunderland however only really have James Vaughan, Lewis Grabban,  Joel Asoro and academy graduate- Duncan Watmore to rely on.

Realistically it’s going to be in attack where this match is won or lost because all of those strikers can score on their day.

Interestingly the last two seasons when these sides were in same league (1999-2000 Premier League, 2006-07 Championship), Sunderland did the league double in both seasons. Could this be a positive omen for the Black Cats?

This match will definitely see goals because both teams have been leaky at back in both league games so far with two goals conceded each. Sunderland however have scored four goals to Wednesday’s one with an opening draw draw then Sunday’s win.

On that note, a draw is likely but I expect the Black Cats to send their fans home meowing in delight with a late winner.

Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday 1-2 Sunderland

Result: Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 Sunderland

Norwich vs QPR

Norwich come into this back off the back of a 3-1 drubbing by Sunderland on Sunday. QPR however will be tough opposition, having avoided defeat in their first two league matches of the season.

Despite Sunday’s loss, the Canaries have the upper hand against Rangers here, having only lost of their last 14 home clashes with them at Carrow Road.

Another confidence boost is that QPR manager, Ian Holloway has been humiliated on his last two trips to Norwich. Across those trips (Millwall – December 2014 & QPR – May 2017), he has seen his team concede 10 goals with only one goal in his side’s favour.

With those two stats in mind, I am going to back Norwich but they are still adjusting to a major squad revamp, making this potentially tighter than Holloway’s recent visits.

Prediction: Norwich 1-0 QPR

Result: Norwich 2-0 QPR
