The Premier League will welcome two new teams to the Premier League season after Huddersfield Town and Brighton Hove Albion both won promotion from the Championship last season.
Last season’s Champions, Chelsea start their season off at home against Burnley and big spenders Man City are away to Brighton.
Watford vs Liverpool
This is a game I feel that could go either way.
With Watford now being managed by the impressive Marco Silva and investing well over the summer bringing in talents such as Andre Gray and Will Hughes from Burnley and Derby respectively I can really see them challenging for a place in the top 12.
Liverpool on the other hand haven’t had the best transfer window.
They have struggled to bring in Virgil Van Djik from Southampton and on Friday morning, they found out that star man Phillipe Coutinho had handed in a transfer request to push a move to Barcelona. The club may have managed to bring in Mohamed Salah from Roma for a fee around £38m but Coutinho does end up leaving Liverpool I can see them having a tough season.
So for this game I can see it being a Watford win.
Liverpool will be without star men Adam Lallana and Phillipe Coutinho which will play a big part and Watford will be wanting to prove a point under their new manager.
Prediction: Watford 1-0 Liverpool
James Predicts: Watford 1-1 Liverpool
Result: Watford 3-3 Liverpool
Chelsea vs Burnley
Last seasons Champions take on Burenly at Stamford Bridge in their first game of the season.
I can’t see anything but a Chelsea win here considering the awful business Burnley have done over the summer.
Selling their top goalscorer from last season Andre Gray and seemingly buying Johnathan Walters as his replacement screams relegation to me. Unless Burnley re-invest the £18m they received for Gray wisely, I can see them going down.
Chelsea on the other hand will want to retain the title, a task I think will be one step too far due to the added pressure of Champions League to a squad lacking in depth.
So for this game I can’t see anything but a Chelsea win.
Prediction: Chelsea 3-0 Burnley
James Predicts: Chelsea 2-0 Burnley
Result: Chelsea 2-3 Burnley
Crystal Palace vs Huddersfield
This game brings upon a special day for both sets of fans with Palace getting to see their new manager in league action for the first time and Huddersfield getting to see their team in the Premier League for the first time since its re-branding.
Palace go into this game after a good summer, keeping hold of the likes of Zaha and Benteke is a very positive sign for the London club.
New manager Frank de Boer will be looking towards those two players this season however as he looks to avoid a relegation fight in his first season in charge of a Premier League side.
Huddersfield will be like Palace in the fact that they hope to avoid a relegation battle.
Town will be in for a tough season but if Wagner can get the team playing like he did in the Championship then they can beat anyone on their.
Both teams look well equipped to stay up this season and have both had good transfer windows and for that reason I can see this game being a draw.
Prediction: Palace 1-1 Huddersfield
James Predicts: 0-1 Huddersfield
Result: Crystal Palace 0-3 Huddersfield
Everton vs Stoke City
This is a game which I feel will go the way of the home side.
Building on from last season, I can see Everton again pushing up the table and battling with the top clubs for a place in the top 6.
Despite selling top goalscorer Lukaku to Manchester United for £90m, Everton have had a very good transfer window with the signings of Jordan Pickford for £30m and Michael Keane for around £25m from Burnely.
Stoke however have had a quite window and unless they start investing in the squad heavily, I can see them having a long hard season due to lack of depth outside the first team.
Prediction: Everton 2-1 Stoke
James Predicts: Everton 2-1 Stoke
Result: Everton 1-0 Stoke
Southampton vs Swansea
Last season’s EFL cup runners up face relegation survivors Swansea City.
Despite finishing 8th last season and getting to a cup final, Southampton decided it would be for the best if they replaced Claude Puel with Mauricio Pellegrino.
The best bit of business Southampton have done so far this window is keeping hold of Engalnd U21 international Nathan Redmond and I expect the winger to shine again this season and Southampton to have a comfortable season in mid-table.
Swansea I can see struggling again but not as badly as they did last season.
If the Welsh side can keep hold of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Fernando Llorente then I can see the Swans keeping their heads just above water and staying in the Premier League for another season.
Prediction: Southampton 2-0 Swansea
James Predicts: Southamton 0-0 Swansea
Result: Southampton 0-0 Swansea
West Brom vs Bournemouth
Unfortunately I can’t see where the excitement is going to come from for this game.
Both teams are strong at the back and both pose a threat upfront with King for Bournemouth and Rondon for West Brom but more often then not the big men up front are left isolated
I can see both teams having quite seasons in all honest with both teams flirting with the top 10 at some stage as well as relegation but ultimately end up in mid-table.
James: West Brom 2-2 Bournemouth
Result: West Brom 1-0 Bournemouth
Brighton vs Man City
Like Huddersfield, this will also be Brighton’s first season in the Premier League. Unfortunately for Brighton, I can see them having a long hard season starting off to a defeat against the side I can see being this season’s Champions.
Brighton’s problem is they don’t have a squad that looks capable of competing at the highest level.
Man City however, look too powerful this season after a very impressive summer.
Out of all of their signings though I think Kyle Walker is the best bit of business, not only by signing do they strengthen a title rival in Spurs but they also sign one of the best right-backs in the world.
For this game though I can see Brighton being embarrassed by the potential Premier League champions.
Prediction: Brighton 0-4 Man City
James Predicts: Brighton 1-3 Man City
Result: Brighton 0-2 Man City
