Whilst the Merseyside derby steals headlines, there is another local derby taking place this weekend. Bournemouth travel to Southampton looking to pull themselves away from relegation in a South Coast derby.
Southampton will have to make do without Manolo Gabbiadini and Charlie Austin for this match.
Defender, Virgil van Dijk is likely to have played his last game for the Saints this season.
Bournemouth will assess Ryan Fraser whilst Harry Arter and Junior Stanislas are expected to return to the squad after injuries.
Adam Federici, Rhoys Wiggins and Callum Wilson are all out till further notice with knee injuries.
Tyrone Mings is serving the third of a five match ban so won’t be featuring till 15th April, when the Cherries visit Tottenham.
Southampton rule again?
The signs are all pointing towards a straight forward victory for Claude Puel’s side.
They have won their last three derbies at St Marys by a 2-0 score line but this time, it will be tougher with Bournemouth bouncing back to their best.
With Gabbiadini ruled out, Eddie Howe will be confident of keeping a clean sheet. Joshua King will too be hoping to take advantage and continue his recent run and add to his eight goals of 2017.
With midweek action, both sides will be keen to avoid any major injuries.
Southampton host Crystal Palace whilst Bournemouth head to Liverpool on Wednesday night. Bearing those fixtures in mind, expect Howe to throw more at this winnable fixture.
The match will be competitive but Bournemouth will have that bit extra in them with Jack Wilshire amongst their best players.
Prediction: Southampton 1-2 Bournemouth
Result: Southampton 0-0 Bournemouth
