Predictions

Marquee Premier Saturday

Today could well be a massive day for the Premier League with the vast majority of the relegation contenders going head to head. The day ends with a critical match in the title race as Manchester City host Tottenham Hotspur.

^3:00pm unless stated

Liverpool vs Swansea (12:30pm, BT Sport 1)

Both teams are in contrasting positions with Liverpool targeting a top four finish whilst Swansea are keen to stay up.

Jurgen Klopp will be hoping that his team can rediscover their attack after a limp fortnight in which they only scored once, against Plymouth Argyle in their FA Cup replay.

Swansea have added Martin Olsson and Tom Carroll in mid week so expect them to feature in what is a must win match. The Swans were solid in the first half against Arsenal last weekend before collapsing against Arsenal after half time.

This match should be tight with the Reds likely to have one eye on the second leg of their League Cup semi. They are 1-0 down in that competition so expect them to try out some youngsters tomorrow and rest those who featured in midweek.

Prediction: Liverpool 1-1 Swansea

Result: Liverpool 2-3 Swansea

Bournemouth vs Watford

Bournemouth need to win this match if they are to get their comfortable midtable challenge back on track after a slump in results since the start of 2017. Eddie Howe should be disappointed with results because the club is capable of challenging for 7-10th if they put their minds to it and get wins.

Watford are also in a slump and with rumours of brutal training regimes, will be hoping that they have enough in the tank to fend off a strong Cherries side.  Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney need to rediscover their form if the Hornets are to avoid a repeat of their second half collapse in last season.

Prediction: Bournemouth 2-0 Watford

Result: Bournemouth 2-2 Watford

Crystal Palace vs Everton

Crystal Palace will be looking to build on their first win under Sam Allardyce by putting a dent in Everton’s Europa League hopes.

The Eagles will have a host of players back from injury so expect them to be strong across the pitch.  Scott Dann’s return will be welcomed by fans but they face an Everton side that ripped Manchester City apart as part of the Manchester vs Merseyside day.

The visitors will be hoping to pick up where they left off and state their Europa League credentials with a comfortable victory. Morgan Schneiderlin and Ademola Lookman are set for their first starts and there is no better side to face than the struggling Eagles.

This match should be competitive but don’t be surprised to see Ronald Koeman pick up the three points with his improving Everton squad.

Prediction: Crystal Palace 0-2 Everton

Result: Crystal Palace 0-1 Everton

Middlesbrough vs West Ham

This home game should have an electric atmosphere with fans eager to welcome Patrick Bamford back in style. This could make things tough for West Ham because they will have to deal with a noisy Riverside Stadium.

Boro are fantastic at defending but need to score more goals if want to remain in the top flight come the end of May. Most of their signings have been in attack so expect them to push on and create problems for an inconsistent Hammers team.

West Ham have off field problems with players being linked with moves away from the London Stadium. This could affect their mindset because some players will be distracted and Dimitri Payet’s absence will be seen as a bonus by Middlesbrough fans.

The match should be lively because both sides can defend well but are inconsistent when it comes to scoring goals. If Bamford features then expect a fairytale return.

Prediction: Middlesbrough 2-1 West Ham

Result: Middlesbrough 1-3 West Ham

Stoke City vs Manchester United

Stoke will be confident coming into this match after an impressive performance at Sunderland last week. Bojan is back in the line up after recovering from injury but is being strongly mooted to be off to Teesside soon.

Manchester United have a full strength squad available to choose from but the Britannia Stadium has always been a tough ground for any top team to visit. United haven’t beaten the Potters on their last three visits  so will need to change that record if they are to get right into the title race.

The match should be open with both teams looking to attack so expect to see goals. Ibrahimović vs Crouch should be interesting because both are in their twilight years but are currently firing on all cylinders.

Prediction: Stoke 2-2 Manchester United

Result: Stoke 1-1 Manchester United

West Bromwich Albion vs Sunderland

Tony Pulis will be elated to have a comfortable home game against an injury ragged Sunderland, after a 4-0 thrashing at White Hart Lane by Spurs in their last outing.

West Brom will look to put last week’s shambles behind them by giving the home fans something to celebrate. New signing, Jake Livermore has no better opportunity to impress the Baggies than by putting the league’s poorest side to shame.

Sunderland will have Jack Rodwell available but are yet to win a game involving him. Their injury list is still enormous with only Victor Anichebe and Steven Pienaar likely to return  this weekend.

The Black Cats are currently struggling defensively due to injuries and international duty seeing them starved of defenders.   They will need to get the ball to Defoe as fast as possible if want to get any goals to help their survival hopes.

Realistically, I don’t see anything other than a comfortable victory for the home side.

Prediction: WBA 4-0 Sunderland

Result: WBA 2-0 Sunderland

Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur (5:30, BT Sport 1)

Pep Guardiola needs to get an reaction out of his squad after their disgraceful performance at Goodison Park on Sunday. Their defence was all over the place and a few of the goals wouldn’t of happened if there wasn’t so much space.

Tottenham will head to the Etihad on top of the world after their dominant performance last Saturday lunchtime. With Harry Kane and Dele Alli in fierce form, another pathetic display at the back will not be acceptable from the Citizens.

Being back on home turf will come as a relief and will allow them to apologise for the away defeat by getting back in the title race. With Aguero facing increased competition from Khelechi Iheanacho and Gabriel Jesus, there’s no room for him to hide but Spurs are no pushovers so expect a feisty match.

Prediction: Manchester City 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Result: Manchester City 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur
