Tonight sees six more ties confirmed for the FA Cup fourth round. Highlights include Burnley vs Sunderland, AFC Wimbledon vs Sutton United and Lincoln City vs Ipswich Town.
AFC Wimbledon vs Sutton United
This local derby saw a 0-0 draw when first met over a week and a half ago.
Wimbledon beat Oxford United on Saturday whilst Sutton made five changes in their FA Trophy tie against Worthing. That match finished 2-2 but could the five changes be a factor tonight?
If the match picks up where it ended on 7th January, fans could see another tight and competitive game. Extra time could be interesting with the visitors not strongly equipped to survive an extra 30 minutes without extreme fatigue setting in.
Prediction: AFC Wimbledon 1-0 Sutton United (AET)
Result: AFC Wimbledon 1-3 Sutton United (In NT)
Barnsley vs Blackpool
Barnsley are set to make a couple of changes with Adam Armstrong and George Moncur set to come into the side, after coming on as subs against Fulham at the weekend.
The Seasiders are however without Brad Potts who sustained an injury against Cambridge on Saturday. His absence will be felt in a side that are in the League Two play off picture.
With the Tykes in the Championship play off picture at this stage of the season, don’t be surprised if they decide to play non first team regulars but should have enough to comfortably see off their visitors.
Blackburn Rovers await the winner of this replay.
Prediction: Barnsley 2-0 Blackpool
Result: Barnsley 1-2 Blackpool AET
Burnley vs Sunderland
Both sides played out a goalless draw at the Stadium of Light but could their relegation battle in the Premier League affect the line ups for tonight?
Burnley are sitting comfortably in tenth so can afford to play more first team players. Being at home will help negate any concerns because the fans will be up for a home tie vs the winner of Fleetwood vs Bristol City, if they win tonight. Their impressive home record sets them up nicely as favourites to progress.
Sunderland have tough decisions to make because a cup run could be what is needed to boost morale on Wearside. They are however down in the relegation zone so won’t want to risk many top players.
Mackem, Jack Rodwell could well be a key figure in the outcome of this match because the Black Cats have never won a game with him in the team. If he starts then it could well be a telling sign in where David Moyes’ priorities lie.
Prediction: Burnley 1-0 Sunderland
Result: Burnley 2-0 Sunderland
Fleetwood Town vs Bristol City
This match has different meanings for both clubs. Fleetwood are currently eying promotion to the Championship and will want a cup run if are to boost morale heading towards the run in. City however are in a Championship relegation battle and need a cup run themselves if are to boost team spirit and avoid an instant return to League One.
Fleetwood are set to be without their captain due to injury but defender, Joe Maguire could make his debut after joining from Liverpool.
Bristol City are expected to recall Hordur Magnusson, Callum O’Dowda and Gary O’Neil for their away trip to Highbury.
Expect both teams to give it their all with an away trip to either Turf Moor or Stadium of Light on offer for the winners. The home fans will be out in force because should they get through and Sunderland beat Burnley, the Trawlermen will surely fancy their chances of reaching the fifth round.
Prediction: Fleetwood Town 2-1 Bristol City
Result: Fleetwood Town 0-1 Bristol City
Crystal Palace vs Bolton Wanderers
The Sam Allardyce derby has gone back to Selhurst Park after a stalemate at the Macron Stadium.
Crystal Palace are set to hand new signing, Jeffrey Schlupp his debut. Centre back, Scott Dann is being rested ahead of Saturday’s league match against Everton.
Bolton are expected to name a similar team tonight to that of the original tie. David Wheater has been in fine form lately for the Trotters so could be a danger man for the Eagles when they attack.
The winning side will entertain Manchester City in the next round.
Prediction: Crystal Palace 1-1 Bolton Wanderers (AET), Bolton to win 4-3 on penalties.
Result: Crystal Palace 2-1 Bolton Wanderers (In NT)
Lincoln City vs Ipswich Town
Tonight’s live replay comes from the Sincil Bank as National League leaders, Lincoln City entertain Championship’s Ipswich Town.
Both sides played out a thriller at Portman Road with Lincoln conceding the lead twice to draw the match 2-2.
The Imps rested six players at the weekend for their FA Trophy tie at Gateshead. Captain, Luke Waterfall and top scorer, Matt Rhead were amongst those left out on Saturday so expect them raring to go tonight.
Ipswich boss, Mick McCarthy has ruled out taking the kids and has revealed that a strong team will be sent out onto the pitch. Dean Gerken will be in goal tonight with Grant Ward and Jonathan Douglas featuring in midfield. Leon Best is mooted to start up front but expect loanee, Tom Lawrence to stake a claim for a starting spot after Saturday’s performance.
The winner will host Brighton and Hove Albion in the next round. A home tie against one of the Championship’s best teams is sure to make Lincoln City hungry to see off the tractor boys. Their fans will certainly help push them on especially in the latter stages and turn Sencil Bank into a daunting place for Ipswich players.
If the original tie was exciting then expect plenty of drama tonight on BBC1 as a well rested home side aim to dump one of the Championship’s surprise disappointments this season out of the FA Cup and earn £67,500 reward for getting through to the fourth round.
Prediction: Lincoln City 3-2 Ipswich
Result: Lincoln City 1-0 Ipswich
