Tonight sees the second of the two League Cup semi finals complete their first leg. Liverpool head to St Marys to face an unpredictable Southampton side.
Southampton will be without captain, Jose Fonte after he handed in a transfer request last week. Charlie Austin is a long term absentee for the Saints.
Liverpool will be delighted to have Phillippe Coutinho back from injury. Captain, Jordan Henderson has been ruled out with a heel injury. Jurgen Klopp will have a full first team available to choose from after resting the vast majority on Sunday, against Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup.
This tie is very tough to call because Southampton have a great defence but Liverpool’s attack is deadly strong.
When these two met in the Premier League two months ago, they couldn’t be separated in a 0-0 draw. This time however, the Reds are missing former Saint, Sadio Mane who is away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Definitely don’t be surprised if we see a draw tonight because under Claude Puel, Southampton have struggled to score goals at home this season. Liverpool are however strong scorers, home and away.
They met in the League Cup last season at the Quarter Finals and Klopp’s team emerged victorious in a 6-1 rout from behind, adding further to the unpredictability of this tie.
Prediction: Southampton 1-1 Liverpool
Result: Southampton 1-0 Liverpool
