Title battle hots up

Title battle to hot up?

Tonight sees the last Premier League match before we enter the FA Cup 3rd Round weekend. What a way to end it with leaders, Chelsea visiting Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

Team News

Spurs will be pleased to have Kyle Walker and Jan Vertonghen back from suspension. They’re however without Erik Lamela due to a hip injury.

Their visitors will have Pedro back from his ban and are aiming for a record 14th consecutive victory. Other than that, Antonio Conte has a full squad to choose from.

Tactics

Mauricio Pochettino will be delighted with his side’s performances across the festive season and will want to end it on a high with victory over their London rivals. With Dele Alli and Harry Kane getting the goals, they will be the key players if want to breach the Blues’ tight defence.

Chelsea will be looking to continue the tactics that have helped them to 13 wins on the trot. Conte has a lot of midfield options and will look for Nemanja Matic to push them forward, after being rested during the win over Stoke City.

Their defence is however showing signs of being vulnerable after being easily opened up by the Potters. With Kieran Tripper on fire against Watford, he could be tough for the back three to keep out if gets a starting nod ahead of Walker tonight.

Either way, there should be goals in this and with both not playing their FA Cup ties till Sunday, both sides can throw the kitchen sink at each other. With the way Spurs are playing, they should be looking to start an unbeaten run if want to get into the title race.

Chelsea haven’t done a league double over their North London opponents since the 2005-06 season but all of Tottenham’s league victories have come at White Hart Lane. With both sides in form, it should be a tight high scoring affair but expect Tripper to be a big part of the result, whether its as a starter or sub.

Prediction: Tottenham 3-2 Chelsea

Result: Spurs 2-0 Chelsea
