Tonight sees Tottenham Hotspur head to Southampton for a massive match involving both clubs.
A win for Spurs will keep them firmly in the title race, whereas the Saints are looking to challenge for another European spot this season.
In their past three games post Europe, Claude Puel’s men have collected seven points to the Lilywhites’ six. They will be buoyant from winning the seaside derby against Bournemouth before Christmas and this will test their Europe chasing credentials.
The most exciting test will be up front with Jay Rodriguez vs Harry Kane. Rodriguez will be looking to force his way back into the England picture. There’s no better place to test himself than against a current England striker, who got into the squad whilst the former future England star was on the sidelines for over two years. The Saints have however only scored eight goals on home soil making it even more intriguing.
Both defences are amongst the Premier League’s best so should be a tight affair but Southampton got previous with North Londoners at this time of year. Last year saw them rip Arsenal apart to win 4-0 and the Gunners had a strong defence at the same stage last season. Could lightning strike twice?
I can see a much closer match but Southampton normally comes alive at this stage of the season. This could play into Tottenham’s hands and see them play on the counter against a confident home side at St Marys, which has seen just one home defeat all season so far.
Prediction: Southampton 2-1 Tottenham
Result: Southampton 1-4 Tottenham
