For Saturday’s fixtures, I managed to get two correct results but no exact scores. Now for Sunday’s five fixtures which could see huge shifts in the table.
Arsenal vs Tottenham
This clash doesn’t just represent bragging rights of North London with both teams challenging for the title.
Arsenal are currently in form despite a midweek comeback from 2-0 down away to Ludogorets Razgrad in Bulgaria. With Oliver Giroud back, the Gunners have plenty of attacking options in midfield and up front. November has however been a notoriously difficult month league wise for Wenger and his players making this weekend’s game, a must win ahead of the international break if they want to enter it at the summit.
Tottenham however are struggling without the influence of Harry Kane but however are still unbeaten so far this season. They are missing some major players in defence and defensive midfield so expect them to be vulnerable. One thing that Mauricio Pochettino can be certain of is that the defending needs to be significantly better than it was at Wembley against Bayern Leverkusen.
With this game being so highly critical, it wouldn’t surprise me if the match was 1-1 heading towards full time and Spurs threw on Kane who gets the winner.
Prediction: Arsenal 1-2 Tottenham
Result: Arsenal 1-1 Tottenham
Hull vs Southampton.
This match looks very one sided with Southampton coming off the back of Thursday night’s famous win over Inter Milan in the Europa League.
Hull have been sloppy in recent weeks after a fantastic start to the season and I don’t see things improving with the Saints possessing plenty of match winners in their squad. Charlie Austin will be a threat having been rested against Inter and with Vigil Van Dijk in sublime form, I don’t see how the tigers can roar their way to a win.
Should Man U fail to win, Southampton could well head into the fortnight off sitting in sixth place. For me, that would be impressive given they are playing Thursday then Sunday most weeks and Claude Puel wasn’t a manager who I thought would get the job but has picked up from Ronald Koeman brilliantly.
Prediction: Hull 0-3 Southampton
Result: Hull 2-1 Southampton
Liverpool vs Watford
Liverpool come into this clash on a fantastic run and will be looking to extend that sequence. Jurgen Klopp will certainly want a response from his back line after shifting two horror goals at Selhurst Park last weekend in the 4-2 win over Crystal Palace.
Watford however are struggling for goals with the Ighalo and Deeney partnership still showing no signs of waking up with the odd goal here and there this season. They were lucky to get the home victory over Hull last week but this week will be a bridge too far but expect them to sneak a consolation goal given the Red’s issues at the back.
Liverpool’s home form has been excellent and can see it continuing to send them top assuming Arsenal don’t beat Spurs.
Prediction: Liverpool 3-1 Watford
Result: Liverpool 6-1 Watford
Swansea vs Manchester United
This is a must win match for Jose Mourinho if he is to avoid guiding the Red Devils to their worst ever Premier League start.
Man U comes into this game off the back of a long trip to Turkey, which saw them lose 2-1. The defence was easily ripped apart by Fenerbahce so expect a different back line for the trip to Swansea. Ibrahimović, Pogba, Martial and Rooney all need to step up their performances because those men should be scoring goals on a consistent basis but are delivering poor performances week in, week out.
The Swans themselves are in awful form despite scoring plenty of goals and risk being cut adrift of safety this weekend if other results go against them. Summer signing, Fernando Llorente needs to start proving why he was worth the money and this match represents as good an opportunity to start getting those vital goals. Ashley William’s departure to Everton has really hurt their defence but that is no excuse because defences need to adapt quickly once their main man has gone.
This match has the making of a bore fest looking at the quality but the last four meetings have finished 2-1 to the winning team. If I had to pick a winner, it would be Swansea due to their better goal scoring record in recent weeks.
Prediction: Swansea 2-1 Manchester United
Result: Swansea 1-3 Manchester United
Leicester vs West Bromwich Albion
I am looking forward to seeing the highlights of this clash because it has the hallmarks of an absolute classic if can replicate the excitement of last season’s clashes, which saw nine goals scored across both meetings.
Leicester will certainly view this match as a must win if they’re to challenge for the Europa League spots so expect them to go hell for leather and WBA to respond. This meeting in March was end to end stuff and Tony Pulis has got the Baggies nailed down at set pieces, which has been Leicester’s Achilles heel this season.
Both teams are on similar runs in the leagues with home record being key to their survival hopes. West Brom have only won one of their last 11 away matches making this a must win to end that rout.
I expect Claudio Ranieri’s side to edge it due to their home record but it should be tight and won’t be surprised if see a repeat of their 2-2 draw at the King Power Stadium. Either way, strap yourself in because this could be the best match of the weekend based on recent meetings.
Prediction: Leicester 3-2 WBA
Result: Leicester 1-2 WBA
